How to Place and Orient Location Beacons

Objective

  1. Placement best practices for the Location Beacons

Environment/Applies To a

  1. Relay Dash
  2. Relay Pro App
  3. Accounts with Indoor Location
  4. Location Beacons

    Procedure

In general, a beacon should be placed in the following manner:
    1. Relay logo (for standard beacons), or the grey power button (for XL beacons) facing towards the room and horizontally placed
    2. Not behind significant barriers, such as thick wall or metal
    3. In a dry area

    Beacon Orientation

    Standard Beacons

    1. Standard beacons should be placed horizontally with the relay logo facing toward the room.

    XL Beacons

    1. To identify how to orient the XL beacon, quickly double tap the button on the face of the beacon. The green light that blinks helps you understand where the signal is projecting off of the beacon. If you are placing the beacon above waist level, you will want to ensure the light blinks to the left of the on button. This is because the signal is projecting down from the bottom of the beacon, and from both sides. If you are placing the beacon below waist level, you will want to ensure that the light blinks to the right of the button. In this case, the signal is projecting up from the top of the beacon, and from both sides.

    Additional Notes

    1. Depending on the room layout and structure, a few beacon placements may be required to achieve proper coverage
    2. Regardless of the setup placement, each room should have a consistent beacon placement to ensure accurate locations in each room
    3. If you consistently receive a different location or no location at all, please contact Relay Support
