How to Use Push-to-Talk (PTT) with the Relay App for iPhone

Objective

  1. Understand and use the push-to-talk (PTT) functionality with the Relay app for iPhone

Environment/Applies To

  1. Relay app for iPhone version 2.13 or later
  2. iOS 16 or later

Procedure

By default, the push-to-talk functionality is automatically enabled for the Relay app when using version 2.13 or later on an iOS device running iOS 16 or late
  1. Ensure you have installed and logged into the Relay app for iPhone
  2. Once logged into the app, select which channel you'd like to have for your live audio and PTT communications by selecting it at the bottom of the screen
    1. Note: Any messages transmitted over the selected channel will play through your phone regardless of whether you have the Relay app open or not
  3. On your phone's home screen, you'll notice a blue pill shaped icon in the top left corner
  4. Tap the blue pill to bring up the communication options of talking or leaving the current channel
    1. To talk: tap and hold the Talk option, say your message, then release the button
    2. To silence the channel: tap the Leave option
      1. Note: If you leave the channel, you will be re-added to it whenever you open the Relay app the next time

Additional Notes

  1. At any time, you can change your current channel by opening the Relay app and selecting a different channel
