WiFi Setup

WiFi Setup

Overview

Your Relays operate via a cellular connection (just like a smartphone) and also have the ability to connect to WiFi networks in order to improve your coverage, connection strength, and overall experience.

Connecting Your Relays to WiFi

There are multiple ways to connect your Relay+ devices to WiFi, including:
  1. Create and Connect to a Dedicated WiFi Network for Your Relay+ Devices (Recommended)
  2. Connect Your Relay+ Devices to an Existing Shared WiFi Network
  3. Whitelist Your Relay+ Devices on an Existing Network With a Captive Portal
  1. Reach out to your WiFi/Internet Service Provider and ask that a new WiFi network be created for the purpose of improving your communication and employee assistance solution's connectivity. If they need additional information, provide them with a link to our Networking Whitepaper
  2. Note: Some providers may charge a small fee or subscription for creating and maintaining additional networks. It is your responsibility to ensure these charges are approved in accordance with your standard policies. Relay is not responsible for any charges incurred.

  3. Once a new network has been created, login to Dash
  4. Under Account, click Wifi
  5. Click Add New Wifi Network
  6. Choose either Scan for Networks or Manual Entry
    1. Scan for Networks: Uses a Relay to find available networks and display them for connecting to, just like your smartphone or computer
      1. Choose a Relay+ device from the list shown (if no Relays are displayed, ensure you have one or more powered on with 3 white LED's)
      2. Wait for the Relay to scan for existing networks
      3. Select the appropriate network from the list shown
      4. If required, enter the network password
      5. Click Save
    2. Manual Entry: Requires you to manually input network and security credentials to establish a connection. Choose this option if the network is a "Hidden" network.
      1. Enter the Network SSID
      2. Select whether the network is "Hidden" or not
      3. Select the network security type
      4. Enter any additional information required such as the network password
      5. Click Save
  7. Your WiFi network will be listed on the screen
  8. Note: If you see an error message, ensure you have selected the correct network and entered the correct information. If the issue persists, contact Relay Support

Connect Your Relay+ Devices to an Existing Shared WiFi Network

Note: Relays can not automatically connect to existing networks with a captive portal or "splash" page. If no other networks are available aside from one with a captive portal/splash page, and you're unable to have a new network created for your Relay+ devices, see the following section "Whitelist Your Relay+ Devices on an Existing Network With a Captive Portal".
  1. Login to Dash

Whitelist Your Relay+ Devices on an Existing Network With a Captive Portal

Note: "Whitelisting" your Relay+ devices on an existing network should be reserved as the last effort to connect to WiFi. Whitelisting requires each of your devices to be manually added to an existing network and will be required for any additional Relays you receive or for any replacements. Relay recommends utilizing one of the other above methods for connecting your Relay+ devices to WiFi whenever possible.
  1. Login to Dash
  2. Under Account, click Wifi
  3. Click Add New Wifi Network

  6. In the search bar of Dash, type MAC
  7. Click Device MAC addresses
  8. Click Copy to clipboard
  9. Paste your MAC addresses somewhere you'll remember them
  10. Open a request with your IT contact or WiFi/Internet Service Provider stating you'd like to whitelist the included MAC addresses on the network you configured in the steps above (inlcude the list of MAC addresses in your request)

Additional Notes

  1. You can add as many WiFi networks to your Relay account as you'd like. Your Relays will choose the best network to connect to from the ones available in Dash
  2. When connected to WiFi, your Relay+ devices will attempt to use a hybrid connection of both cellular signal and WiFi to transmit the required information. In the event WiFi is not available, or there is an issue with your WiFi connection, your Relays will automatically connect via cell.
