Renaming a Relay or User in Dash

Renaming a Relay or user in Dash is a simple process that can help personalize your fleet to it's users or to mark certain devices as belonging to certain groups. For instance, Relays can be renamed as Housekeeping 1, Housekeeping 2, Housekeeping 3, etc. to denote them belonging to a team. Likewise, they can be named John Doe, Jane Doe, etc. to denote who is using the Relays.

Relays can be renamed a few different ways. Individual Relays may be renamed or a group of Relays.

Renaming Individual Relays or Users

To rename individual Relays, log into Dash and navigate to the "Account" tab at the far left. Here, navigate to the "Users" tab below the Account tab

Once here, select the Relay or user that you'd like to rename. This will pull up the device administration page with several different options. Select the option that says "Rename Device" under the "Settings" heading.

Once this has been selected, a setup wizard will appear. Enter a unique name in this field and select "submit." Note that you will not be able to name multiple devices the same name or name a device the same as a group. You may enter the same designation with a number to differentiate between two devices (i.e. two devices cannot be named "security" but you can have "security 1" and "security 2").

Bulk Renaming

If you have a higher number of Relays and do not want to go through and name each individual device, you can use the Bulk renaming tool in Dash. This feature is not available through navigation but it is available through the search bar.

Enter in "bulk" into the search bar at the top of the page. The option for "Bulk Rename" should pop up as one of the first options.

Once selected, a setup wizard will appear prompting you to enter a prefix for the names. This prefix must be unique as it will automatically number those devices. If the prefix and number match another Relay, this will error out and not rename your devices.

Once you have entered a unique prefix, the setup wizard will prompt you to select the devices you'd like to rename. You can either select those devices per group or by individually selecting the devices you'd like to rename.

When you have selected the devices you'd like to rename, select submit. The setup wizard will show you a preview of the devices and give you the option to repick the devices you'd like to rename or confirm the rename.

Once confirmed, Dash will automatically rename all the devices you've selected as long as you have entered a unique name.
